Apps for Freelance Chefs
These days being a freelance chef can be rewarding in various ways—more control around your income, your work and life balance concerning other commitments and interests.
With all that said, a few things can be a headache, and there are a few apps out there to help keep you organised, and enhance your professionalism. Furthermore, helping to get paid on time, better communication with an accountant less mess with paperwork and leaving you to focus on the cooking!
Invoicing and accounts
The last thing you want to be doing after a hard day at work or chillaxing on your day off is messing around with invoices. Again, you want to look professional and stay organised. When I started to freelance as a chef, I started using word docs and PDF’s. It took forever to get one drawn up and just not convenient. Also, keeping track of what was and was not paid is a nightmare with folders all over the desktop. Now life can be a little simpler.
Here are two great apps that can create template invoices, along with all of the correct and legal information you need to provide on an invoice. After a shift or the end of the week when you are billing your customer, you can quickly tap in the details and send the invoice immediately and securely. The best thing about this App is the invoices are tracked, so you can see what invoices are still to be processed.
Lastly, you can invite accountants to the App to view and do your end of year tax.
In terms of keeping track of receipts, if the purchase is something to do your job, e.g. Workwear tools, petrol etc. You can keep track of the receipts and file them via a few apps. There are quite a few out there, but here are some I and several of my freelance chef candidates have also recommended.
If you are not keen on handing out your phone number but do not want the expense and inconvenience of a second mobile. You can buy a phone number and divert the calls to one phone or mobile at a reasonable cost.
Some freelance chefs are happy to find work themselves rather than going through an agency. Your work could be from social media such as Facebook groups, Instagram and Twitter. With technology, there are also various recruitment apps you can use to search for work.
However, if you prefer the human touch and prefer to discuss your specific requirements with a fellow being, then here at Purple Carrot Recruitment, we care about our candidates and clients.
